Pumalin Park fiords

Hundreds of years ago in this remote place, the native population, the Chonos, lived and paddled these fiords in their canoes, known as dalcas. They bathed in hot springs and relished the abundant sea life.
We invite you to discover the majestic fiords in one of the most amazing destinations in the world: Pumalin Park. Experience the park like the native Chonos, but instead, with modern kayaks and technology of the 21st century. Kayaking enables us to get closer to nature, paddle with dolphins and sea lions, and get close to the shore to see the exotic birds and wooded forest. Come enjoy wonderful views of mountains and glaciers, and the music of nature while gliding our paddles through the beautiful clear waters.

Why in a kayak?

Kayaking is the only eco-friendly way to access this place, allowing the opportunity to observe the flora and fauna up-close without any motor noise. We can also go up through the river, and through shallow waters, exercising our bodies and relaxing our minds, all the while being part of nature. It is not unusual to paddle alongside dolphins and sea lions swimming near our kayaks, as the paddling will not disturb them. And do not discount the occasional encounter with whales and sea elephants as we make contact with the shore to observe the birds and magic forest..

Why choose this trip?

Foto del Kayak en Patagonia

These fiords are very different than the southern fiords- having warmer weather, many hot springs, and a more lush forest. The summit glaciers here don’t touch the ocean like the southern glaciers, but are spectacular nonetheless. At this latitude the forest displays its greatest expression. Our route takes us
between millenial woods, hot springs, summit glaciers over the sea, and giant granite walls. On a warm and sunny summer day it’s possible to take a bath in the fiords while gazing at the glaciers. And in the winter, the hot springs give us shelter from the mildly cool temperatures.
We will paddle during the day viewing gorgeous landscapes, surrounded by amazing flora and fauna. Enjoy the hot springs during the afternoon and evening. Go fishing and hiking, see grand views of geysers and glaciers, or even try scuba diving. Enjoy a barbecue of local foods, join in the traditional customs, and share stories with the native people.

You will be able to practice fishing, hiking and scuba diving, to delight with glaciers and geysers views, enjoy barbecues, or just to have a typical food while joining the locals, sharing their stories and manners.

Hot Springs and Geysers

Along our route we will find several hot springs. Depending on the trip you choose, you will enjoy 2-5 hot springs surrounded by the jungle, each with awesome views of the fiords. After a day of paddling, you can swim in the fiords and relax. Located near a wonderful waterfall, you will see gorgeous geysers in the middle of the forest, with steam rising up in columns. Travelling to this place promises to be a real adventure, crossing rivers by hanging bridges and rapelling walls covered with giant ferns..

Flora and Fauna

The Pumalin fiords is an excellent place to just observe. Cahuelmó fiord is a natural bird sanctuary, where you can see and hear their songs in the forest. You might see birds like Kingfisher, red-headed vulture, Carancho, Rayadito, Chucao, Hued-Hued, just to name a few. You could paddle with dolphins and sea lions, or maybe even sea elephants, and keep an eye out for possibly a whale. The forest is pristine and displays its greatest expression in this rainy region of our country. Prominent in this zone is the Ulmo tree with its white flower that blooms in summer. Witness a great variety of big ferns and trees like the Ulmo, Tineo, Coigue, Alerce, Mañío, Canelo, and Tiaca, just to name a few.

Mountains

They emerge directly from the deep ocean. We should say, we are at the same time in the sea and the mountains. From our kayaks you will have the fantastic experience of look at the glaciers in the summits from the salty sea water and big walls of granite too. The mountains are covered by wonderful forrest, wich get down from the slopes, to the ocean, touching the water near to our kayaks.

The Chonos

The Chonos are the native population of these lands. Proof of their existence dates back over 7500 years.
They traveled along these fiords in their Dalcas, a wooden canoe similar to our kayaks. The lived off of the sea- hunting sea lions, fishing, and gathering shellfish.

Envision taking a dip in the hot springs where the Chonos lived, enjoying a beautiful starry night or relaxing under a magical rain. Imagine paddlng with dolphins and simply enjoying the grand views of the glaciers and forest. These are the Pumalin Fiords!.

Come explore this awesome park!
